Senior Citizens Days
Has your town, community, subdivision or organization thought about an annual senior citizens day? One very nice example came across our desk today.
It is the East Texas State Fair Senior Citizens Day. This year, 2009, the Fair celebrated 40 years of honoring local senior citizens and providing them with an entertaining day. The seniors days seems simple to organize with simple and pleasant events that can be repeated each year.
As the Tyler Morning Telegraph reported, the event was held inside a local convention center with hundreds of senior attending. They munched on popcorn and drank sodas, so the expense had to be minimal.
Some events included:
- The Longest Married Couple
- King and Queen for the Year (actually two queens this year, both 101 years old born on the same day)
- Senior Citizen of the Year
- Various performances by local and national entertainers
- And the day was topped off with a dance.
This is the sort of simple, easily planned, and easily implemented event that almost any local organization can put on for senior citizens in conjunction with a larger community or ogranizational event.
Try one sometime. Your seniors will enjoy every minute of it.
